Even if you don’t possess the special knowledge in sphere of landscape design, you may make a beautiful flowerbed by your own hands following some simple recommendations.

First of all, one should find an appropriate place not only from the esthetic point of view. It must be also comfortable for plants. The sunny and protected from strong winds place is desirable. Thereby do remember that in most cases it’s better to make one big flower-bed than several small ones, it’s not recommended to make weird shapes.

As for assortment of flowers, first of all make drawings of several colored variants of flowerbeds. The drawing shouldn’t be too variegated. If you would like to use variegated combinations, they shouldn’t cover the full flowerbed, but yet to be split by self-colored strips. Also the colored spots have to be interchanged with white and grey ones.

One should consider the herbal height too. Mostly the scrubby plants are bedded on the periphery of the flowerbed (under 20 cm), in the main part of flowerbed - the plants of average height, in the center – high plants with unusual leaves and bright flowers or even bushes or short trees.

Choosing the certain plants, please pay attention on conditions in which they will be growing up – climate and type of soil on your plot. Also take into consideration the terms of blossom. If you don’t consider it – it may play a low-down trick: plants will flourish at one time and you won’t get your own conceived design. From the other side, having adjusted the terms of blossom, one should reach the additional effect, when during the whole season the bloomy plants look good to the eye. As the type of plant may be, the flowerbeds are divided into one-year and perennial.

Both all-over or carpet flowerbeds look beautifully. The plants are settled very closely, usually in the right corner or in the form of four-square with dimensions of 5 meters. Most commonly it is phloxes, georginas, asters, zinnias. It is better if the flower-bed is not plain that’s why if you use the plants of identic height, create a small highness or place the flower-bed on the downhill plot.

One should take care of borders’ decoration. It is important to make sure that the plants are not luxuriated over the flowerbed’s borders. In order to accent the border between flower-bed and lawn, one should engrave a narrow strip of turf around it and fill it up with sand, beaten brick or other alike decorative material (by doing so one should have in mind combinability of this material’s color with coloration of the flowerbed). Closer to pathways flowerbeds are usually made more low-growing.
